Teens from The Chai Center’s CTeen chapter in Dix Hills sent more than 60 boxes of supplies to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

The teens packed toys, food, cleaning products, baby essentials and school supplies. The items were sent to the Houston CTeen chapter to be distributed to those in need.

Judith Boggio and her organization We The People United Corp. assisted in collecting donations.

Three Long Island Preschools Selected to Participate in Project LEAD!
Leading The Way for Nature- and Reggio-inspired Approaches
School leaders and staff from Silverstein Hebrew Academy in Great Neck, Chai Center Preschool in Dix Hills, Woodbury Jewish Center, and Gan Shalom Nursery School of the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore in Plandome are joining eight other schools from the Greater New York area to engage students and families in Jewish Nature and Reggio- inspired experiences. They will attend leadership seminars throughout the year and receive executive coaching and content consultants to work with their teachers. Learn more about Project LEAD, an initiative of The Jewish Education Project.

anne frank.jpg A Night of Tears and Laughter as History is Told

The auditorium at the Suffolk Y JCC was filled to capacity last Thursday as octogenarian and concentration camp survivor Eva Schloss took the stage to speak about her childhood with stepsister Anne Frank and her experiences during the holocaust.

Eva, whose family also went into hiding in Holland and was betrayed and subsequently sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp spoke eloquently and at length about her friendship with Anne, her experiences in Auschwitz and her life after her release. Several dignitaries also spoke at the event including Congressman Steve Israel who presented Mrs. Schloss with a flag that was flown over the White House in her honor. The audience was spellbound and at times in tears as Eva spoke, answered many questions and then held a moving candle lighting tribute to those who perished.

The program, A Historic Evening with Anne Frank’s Stepsister was a joint project of The Chai Center of Dix Hills, Chabad of Stony Brook and Chabad of Mid-Suffolk.
