5 Full Days      9:30 AM-2:30 PM

Curriculum Overview
As a four-year-old, your child will learn the skills needed to succeed in kindergarten. Your child will master the skills and concepts learned in the three’s such as shapes, ABC’s, numbers, how to cut, snip, fringe, and glue. He/she will explore using various art materials, in addition to learning pre-math, pre-reading and writing skills as we prepare for kindergarten. We will learn about the seasons, holidays (Jewish and American), about ourselves and our family, about our body and how to look after ourselves, and much more through themed explorations, crafts, stories, poems, songs and games as well as through our Scholastic Weekly Reader magazine program.

One important aspect of our pre-k program is to teach the children the importance of responsibility. We accomplish this by having each child place their belongings in their cubby, sign their name in on the attendance sheet and check the job chart upon entering the room each morning.

Most importantly, we will work to further develop your child’s social skills, which are crucial to success in school and in life. As your child learns he/she will gain a strong sense of self, grow to be independent, responsible, caring, patient, a good friend, co-operative and a team player.

Scholastic Reading Program - We will use the Scholastic Weekly Readers to facilitate pre-reading skills, exposing the children to whole group instruction where they will have the opportunity to answer questions and share ideas with their peers. Additionally, they will use the Weekly Reader individual activities (i.e., cut and paste, create a book), perfecting skills such as cutting, sequencing and writing.

Each afternoon is highlighted with an enrichment activity:

Pre math skills - We work on numbers and counting through art, games, finger play and stories.

Library - Throughout the year we visit The Chai Center library. Library has two parts:

Part 1: Each child is able to select a book to borrow for the week.

Part 2: Periodically we will focus on a different children’s author by reading their work and discussing the stories, which will help develop their pre-reading skills.

Art - Open-ended art allows for self-expression, exploration, mess, and a lot of fun!

Music Appreciation and Movement - Here we bring out the instruments, the puppets, and the parachute. We dance, march, sing and move, all while working on listening and large motor skills.

Science and Baking - Exploring through measuring, mixing, and delighting our senses.

Phonics Enrichment - Students will continue to explore letter sounds and make connections with words.

You will be amazed with the change and growth that the year will bring in your child.
